Welcoming the Season of Ordinary Time
and recognizing that we don't need to leave the pile of laundry, or the laughter of kids to find Love all around us.

The season of Eastertide came to an end yesterday with the celebration of the coming of the Holy Spirit and the beginning of the Christian church. This feast day, called Pentecost, also ushers the church into the longest season of the year — Ordinary Time.
As this email lands in your inbox, I’ll be preparing to fly to Chicago for a Pastors, Priests, and Guides retreat1 and thinking about what it means to move into Ordinary Time. A season that is less flashy than Easter or Christmas and likely less contemplative than Advent or Lent. It is, in a word — ordinary.
In many denominations the color green is used during this season to signify the slow growth and transformation that happens this time of year.
I wrote these words to my spiritual direction community last week2 — As I look forward to the coming season, I hope to embrace the mundane tasks of my days. I hope to recognize that I don’t need to leave the pile of laundry, or the laughter of kids to find God. Love, as it turns out, is waiting to be noticed in the ordinary, mundane moments of our lives. This is my prayer for you too and I hope you’ll make space to uncover the gifts this new season offers us.
How do you find God in the ordinary, mundane moments of your life?
alongside you in the ordinary,
holly
P.S. If you want to embrace Ordinary Time in a new way, you might join me for my virtual retreat on Thursday, June 12th from 12-1:30, we still have room for you to join!
